Deaverview Mountain is the largest undeveloped mountain top in Asheville, North Carolina. Slated for luxury-home development, SAHC stepped in to secure the 343 acre property in 2023. Using a conservation buyer, the property was saved from development, earning praise from local hikers, the NC congressional delegation and the business community. This will become an in-town passive park, serving the poorest community in Asheville as well as visitors to the region.
16 headwater creeks serving NC trout waters originate on the slopes of the tract. Exceptional regenerating white oak forest blankets the ridgeline. Additionally, the ridgeline is part of an extensive wildlife corridor connecting to lands owned by NC Wildlife Resources, land trusts, and USFS. The 343 acre property is made up of mature hardwood forest with an intact canopy. It is an island of forest in the middle of a rapidly growing Asheville metropolitan area.
Deaverview is a historically black community joining West Asheville. The area is currently underserved by parks and the vicinity meets the ORLP test for an under-resourced community. The property is serviced by the Asheville city bus service making it accessible to all. The purchasing of this property is a win for conservation and community alike.
