Appalachian Knowledge Amplification
This initiative proposes a media and arts-based accompaniment program for climate and conservation partners across the Appalachian region, rooted in Appalshop methodologies such as documentary filmmaking, story circles, and community-based media. By documenting and amplifying Appalachian peoples’ relationships to land and place (centering historically excluded voices), this project seeks to create a foundation for an Appalachian Climate & Conservation Newsroom—a storytelling and advocacy platform dedicated to conservation efforts and building a living archive of Appalachian ecological knowledge. It will provide critical media infrastructure to uplift the work of activists, land stewards, and cultural practitioners while strengthening the regional narrative around climate resilience and ecological justice.
