East Fork Chatooga River Tract
From its source waters in southern Jackson County, the East Fork of the Chattooga River is largely protected by wetlands and the Dulany Bog Preserve, before running next to Highway 107 for a short distance and then re-entering national forest land. Starting in 2021, a developer illegally crossed the East Fork of the Chattooga River to attempt damaging development of boggy areas and forested land next to the stream. Permit mandates have delayed development until now, but if this tract can be acquired by the Chatooga Conservancy, the private owner of a contiguous tract just south of the property has committed to donating or placing a conservation easement on this adjacent land, solidifying environmental preservation of the area and stream.
