Development of Racial Equity Strategies in Appalachian Conservation
There is a broad acknowledgement among Appalachian conservancy groups that to achieve conservation needs while uplifting equity, justice and sovereignty, strategic and widespread outreach and collaboration are required, as are core teams that represent the diversity of the region including historically marginalized people. However, with these teams facing a general lack of capacity, Coalition for Southern Equity is focused on conducting thorough research and consultations to develop a set of strategies and principles that can guide conservation organizations in integrating equity into their work. The planned report, Getting Equity Right in Appalachian Conservation, will be a critical resource for both Re:wild and the broader conservation community, providing tools and guidance for just and equitable conservation efforts.
