Rural Farmland Protection
Shenandoah Valley Conservancy seeks to protect a unique and resilient foodscape in the Shenandoah Valley, located at the intersection of the Appalachians and Chesapeake Bay watershed and including both terrestrial and marine components. The Black Family Land Trust,The Conservancy, Alliance for the Shenandoah Valley, and Potomac Conservancy are working to protect this area, as farmland is vital to rural communities, economies, and ecosystems. The Conservancy and its partners are working with the Black Family Land Trust to allocate funding towards farmers of color to help them accomplish the dual goal of protecting their farmland in perpetuity and moving federal dollars to communities historically excluded from such programs.
