Cook Creek

The Cook Creek tract, named after the North Carolina Division of Water Resources Trout Water that flows through it, is a high priority due to its climate resilience rank. Lying within the Roan Mountain Important Bird Area, the state designated Roan Mountain Massif Natural Area, the Roan Mountain West Forest Matrix Block, and the Grandfather Unaka Priority Reptile and Amphibian Conservation Area, there are records of several vulnerable species on the property. Protection of this area, which reaches up to 4,300 ft in elevation, will ensure that the views from Roan Mountain and the Rhododendron Garden are not impaired by encroaching development.
