Gouge Cove

Gouge Cove is two properties spanning a ridgeline on the southwestern slopes of Roan Mountain within its Important Bird Area. Home to many key species with records of the State Rare black-billed cuckoo and a top priority for climate resilience, the Northern tract adjoins the state-designated Roan Mountain Massif Natural Area and is partially within a High Priority Wildlands Network Wildlife Corridor. The acquisition of these properties will significantly contribute to the protection of deciduous temperate forests and the ongoing sequestration of carbon.
